Course Overview

In this course we use the Wordle online game from the New York Times as our conduit for learning. We explore functions, absolute cell referencing, sorting and filters to help us narrow down our guesses. This functionality can help you to be more effective in your Wordle game as well as your other Excel applications.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Use basic Excel functions to analyze and manipulate data.
  • Apply absolute cell referencing to maintain consistent formulas across cells.
  • Sort and filter data sets to narrow down possibilities and support logical decision-making.
  • Transfer these Excel skills to both game-based scenarios like Wordle and practical, real-world spreadsheet tasks.

    Target Audience

    Students should have a basic understanding of data entry and simple formulas.

    Required

    • A laptop or desktop with a mouse or mousepad (feedback from students is that a smartphone or tablet-type device is not a good fit for this course)

    • A microphone (video is not required)
